From online courses to crowdfunding campaigns and brands built from scratch, here’s a look at some of the marketing projects I’ve done over the past 6 years.
Online Courses and Schools
From 2015 I’ve been engaged in building online courses and schools for clients. Online courses can bring in steady, recurring revenue and allow you to deeply contribute to your audience. In the last 5 years, I’ve produced and launched 5 online courses, which have done over $3,500,000 in sales, and enrolled more than 2000 students.
Online School Client: The Soil Foodweb School
In 2018, I helped Dr. Elaine Ingham cofound and produce her online Soil Foodweb School. This school trains professionals, students, and farmers how to restore soil using Biological methods, and gives them a fundamental understanding of Soil Biology and the Soil Foodweb.
The school launched with no budget, has seen phenomenal results, with 1000+ students enrolled, and a strong foundational program and community that grows each year.
Audience Building with Webinars
Building an audience is essential for anyone who wants to be effective at selling. You may have an amazing product, but if you don’t have an audience to sell it to it’s much more difficult. Audience Building allows you to build a market for yourself, so you can build the products and services your fans actually want.
Audience Building Client: The Sustainable Design Masterclass
In 2015, Neal Spackman and I had an idea to build a brand and an audience by holding regular webinars on Regenerative Agriculture. In the span of 3 years, we went from an audience of 0 to an email list of 20,000. In that time, we held 64 webinars, and sold over $600,000 worth of regenerative products, courses and crowdfunders with this audience.
Start to Finish Marketing Overhaul
For some clients, I’ve created the whole she-bang. I’ve created sites, brands, audiences, films, and marketing campaigns from scratch so they can launch their products and services for people who are already waiting. Though this process is labor intensive, it allows companies to hit the ground running.
Marketing Overhaul Client: Harrington’s Organics Consulting
Todd Harrington operates a thriving organic lawn and tree care business in Hartford, CT, but he wanted to do more consulting work around the country. I created a whole new way for him to reach out to clients; creating films from current and past projects, a new website, a client screening process, and a marketing rollout to generate consultation clients,
Brand Building
Building a brand is a core part of marketing. Creating a consistent message that connects with your audience, and then creating a brand around it. I’ve helped create consistent brands for Eco-driven companies, so they can operate at the capacity they want to.
Brand Building Client: Elemental Ecosystems
Zach Weiss, the protoge of mountain farmer Sepp Holzer, is booked solid with consulting and building work, but that wasn’t always the case. A few years ago, in 2015, he faced the same challenges finding the right clients that a lot of Ecological Consulting/Contracting companies do. I helped Zach build a video brand on YouTube to connect with his clients so they knew he was creating mind blowing permaculture projects across the world. These videos helped him find and screen the right clients, so he could do more of the work he wanted to do.
Crowdfunding Campaigns
Ecology Entrepreneurs and Non-Profits often face a uphill struggle with fundraising. While a tech app that finds the nearest pizza slice might raise millions from clueless vc investors in a few minutes, people trying to restore forests, soils and ecosystems unfortunately need to do a lot more work to raise that money from the public. I’ve launched or consulted on 10+ crowdfunding campaigns, and know what it takes to create a successful campaign.
Crowdfunding Consulting Client: Pleistocene Park
Pleistocene Park had an ambitious, important Kickstarter back in 2017. They were raising $100,000 to rescue a herd of Bison from the interior of Europe, and transport them to Siberia to start a Megafauna Ecosystem. With 5 days to go, they were 20K short of their goal. I helped Nikita Organize some crowdfunding webinars with my email list and they reached the 100K mark within 3 days, and crossed to 110% by day 5.
It’s easy to forget about Marketing when we believe in the rightness of our cause, or the quality of our product…but it matters. Marketing allows you to connect with your audience, and to get an outcome with your story. Every great movement in history had a good Marketing plan behind it.
